Creativity comes in many forms

By Jeanne

My mom is an artist. She’s gone through many phases in my lifetime, from potting to needlepoint, from acrylic paints to watercolor. My favorite are her watercolors, which are mostly iris.

She’s truly talented. And I had fun growing up doing ‘art stuff’. But since my drawing and painting skills are limited to stick figures and walls, for a long time I didn’t think I was creative.

When my daughter was born, I got into scrap-booking. Way in. I went hog wild with with stickers and decorative frames. It was great. Because I could create art without drawing, I felt accomplished. Looking at that those pages now, I see I went a bit overboard. But it was fun. Creating those pages showed me that I am creative.

In fact, I have a creative streak a mile wide. It’s just not the same as my mom’s. I have a vivid imagination, I like to tell stories and I like to write. I like to create cards using rubber stamps, and I like to bead. If I work to create it, you can bet it will have color!

So, thanks mom. I’ve learned a lot from you. I can appreciate your art. I particularly love your watercolor flowers. I didn’t inherit your specific talent, but I got other gifts from you.

So think about it. What are your special creative talents?
